International Folklore Festival "Căluşul Românesc"

International Folklore Festival "Căluşul Românesc"

50th Edition

50 days after Easter, the Romanians celebrate, for three days or a week (depending on the geographical area), Pentecostals, feminine (quasi) malefic characters whose existence occurs mainly in the air and in the forest in the summer. Similar to Ile, sometimes confused, one of their main qualities is the particularly beautiful dance. They dance in the air or on the ground at night, placed in a circle, but if they are seen by a mortal or if, by mistake, someone goes down the place they danced (there is a burning grass), he gets sick from the popularly called " of Pentecost ". The magical-ritual remedy against these illnesses offered him the Chalices game, well-known for his performances and loved everywhere.
In 1969, it was decided that, annually, in Olt County, the Festival - Interjudicial Competition "Căluşul Românesc" will take place. The first nine editions were held in Slatina, and in 1978 in Caracal. Today, under the name of the International Folklore Festival "Căluşul românesc". During this period, more than 1,700 bands, corsets and bass guitar bands have evolved on the stage of the festival, amounting to almost 43,000 dancers, hundreds of folk ensembles in the country and abroad, orchestras and folk music soloists.
The parade of the folk folk port and the folk ensembles and folk ensembles in the country and abroad are always a frenetic overflow of rhythms and colors, choreographic figures of the most varied, shouting and rapid beatings, a true ethnofolcloric recital, in which Oltenian horns and Serbs catch up in beauty with the mountain pass, the graceful jump of Transylvanian dance, the Moldavian tropots and the unusual costumes and popular games of the guests outside the country.
With each edition of the festival, researchers in the field, choreographers, tutors, members of the National Commission for the Safeguarding of Immaterial Cultural Heritage called "Căluşul" propose within the Scientific Symposium to unravel the secrets of the most disturbing and stunning Romanian dance - Căluşul, unique through variety and richness of movement, bearing the unmistakable brand of our genius.
The inclusion of Căluş, by UNESCO, on the list of immaterial masterpieces of mankind, represents a necessity of the reconstruction and promotion of this ancient custom, a chance for its survival, but also the recognition that, where it has not already disappeared, the chalice is transformed into a commercial, stage, ever less authentic.
"This Festival will undoubtedly provide a valuable opportunity to promote the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, as well as to raise awareness of its importance. It is therefore a pleasure to grant UNESCO's patronage to this festival. " Irina Bokova - UNESCO Director General.
In the framework of the festival, in collaboration with the National Tourist Information and Promotion Center in Caracal, the Traditional Crafts Fair is organized to support small craftsmen, gastronomy and small local entrepreneurs in promoting their own products under the brand "PRODUS in Romanati" promote local culture, traditions, products and services. The exhibition exhibits local producers of food, clothes - clothing, furniture, craftsmen, artisans, gourmet products, tourist services providers, flower producers.
Every summer, in the week of Pentecost, in all corners of the country, as a fantastic overflow of Romanian soul, in the Romantic Plain, in Caracal, for a few days the capital of the Romanian horseman, the folk dresses and folk ensembles from Oltenia and Muntenia, folklore ensembles from Banat and Transylvania, folk songs and folk ensembles from Moldova, folk ensembles from Spain, Bulgaria, Moldova, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia, Israel, Portugal, Great Britain, Russia, Albania united by the same sweetness of the brotherhood in customs.
